How many people in Germany are actually vaccinated against the coronavirus?

After the criticism of the RKI and RKI boss Lothar Wieler, virologist Drosten is now also taking a position.

Berlin - Vaccination is considered to be the key within the corona pandemic, many experts had classified the previous vaccination rate in Germany as too low.

But could in truth many more people in Germany have received the immunizing vaccine prick than previously known?

In the debate about the precise vaccination quota, virologist Christian Drosten has now defended the criticized Robert Koch Institute around RKI boss Lothar Wieler.

Criticism of RKI after imprecise figures: Virologist Drosten does not understand excitement - "The total slapstick"

How high is the vaccination rate in Germany really? As Drosten explained on Tuesday in his podcast "Coronavirus Update", he does not consider the blame to be justified on the RKI and thus also on RKI boss Lothar Wieler. As the expert from the Berlin Charité also explains in the podcast, the topic of vaccination rates has been known for a long time, and the RKI has been pointing out the problem for a long time.

A report on an RKI vaccination survey last week showed that among adults in Germany probably more people were vaccinated against corona than reported by the RKI.

According to the report, the vaccination rate for once and fully vaccinated people aged 18 and over could be up to five percentage points higher than previously assumed.

But it is also clear: as early as August, the RKI reported “a certain amount of uncertainty” in the interpretation of vaccination rate data.

Much more people vaccinated in Germany than previously known?

According to the virologist Drosten, the situation in Germany has not changed, the public excitement about the discrepancy is "completely free".

"That is just the total gossip about what happened there." As the virologist explains in the podcast, for example, the vaccination rate for adults should not be taken into account, but the rate for the entire population.

The difference between the reporting system and the RKI accompanying examination is small and "irrelevant" for the assessment of the overall situation.

The accompanying study, a survey, also has some limitations.

Meanwhile, the corona situation in Germany apparently remains relaxed, the RKI continues to report stagnating infection numbers.
