The CSU would have liked to organize a competition.

Munich - The city refuses to award a prize for the most beautiful pub gardens in Munich *.

This emerges from an answer to a request from the CSU frat group.

In it, City Councilor Thomas Schmid wrote on October 1, 2020 that pavement gardens were a model for success in times of the Corona * pandemic.

“In some cases, Munich's gastronomy outperforms each other in terms of design, making our city even more charming.” In order to maintain this motivation, the ten best pubs and their operators should be awarded an appropriate cash prize.

Pavement gardens in Munich: Parking spaces are no longer available for restaurants

As reported, in order to compensate for the missing guest seats due to Corona *, the catering industry was given the opportunity to use parking spaces and possible lateral expansions of the areas beyond the building boundary as extended temporary bar areas.

The resulting pavilion gardens met with a very good response from restaurateurs and guests.

In the meantime, the city council had decided to allow the pub gardens and the expansion of the open-air bar areas every year between April and October; most recently the Greens and the SPD had also requested that this period be extended to and including November this year as an exception.

Pub gardens: Munich doesn't want to pay for competition

An award for the ten most beautiful pub gardens is currently simply not possible, writes the presentation by Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU).

According to research by the administration, the cost of holding a competition would be around 40,000 euros plus prize money for the catering companies.

"At the moment, the Department of Labor and Economics cannot make these funds available due to the current budget situation."
