The new president has been the board member for social and specialist policy in the Caritas Association since July 2017 and is also responsible for the digital agenda of the Catholic association.

The 62-year-old Welskop-Deffaa is the first woman to head the association in the 125-year history of Caritas.
“More than 80 percent of Caritas employees are women.
So it fits well that the head of the Catholic welfare association is now also a woman, ”she said after the election.

Welskop-Deffaa will take over from Neher in mid-November.
