The Tölzer Hütte am Schafreuter is structurally in excellent shape after its general renovation - but now again without a host.

Because the tenants Sylvia and Alexander Schrepf were said goodbye again after only one season on the Schafreuter.

Lenggries - The separation between the Tölz section of the Alpine Club as the hut owner and the couple from the Salzburger Land is “on the best of terms”, as both sides emphasize.

On the sidelines of the festivities for the inauguration of the completely renovated hut on Saturday (we reported), Section Chairman Benedikt Hirschmann thanked the Schrepfs for their commitment in a not so easy season: "You did it really well."

Hosts had to contend with some adversity

In fact, the couple had to contend with some adversity, as Alexander Schrepf reports.

He describes taking over the hut during the renovation period as the slightest problem.

At first, the innkeepers on the Schafreuter still catered for the construction workers.

"But when we were able to officially unlock on July 1st, there was actually only a few small remaining work to be done," he says.

Therefore, the company could actually have picked up speed in the "unique location" that the landlord raves about.

Uncertainty about the corona rules kept some guests away

The reality was a little different.

“It wasn't easy due to the weather,” says Schrepf.

"There were many days when we sat upstairs alone." The number of overnight stays was "well below expectations," said the landlord.

He believes that the uncertainty about the corona rules deterred some potential guests.

"On the weekends we couldn't complain, on other days there were sometimes only two or three people."

The weather is changing, the pandemic, it is generally hoped, will no longer play such a major role in the summer of 2022.

The Schrepf couple, however, after careful consideration, came to the conclusion that they would not take the personal financial risk for another season.

The Schrepfs now want to go back to their winter job at the Gasteiner Bergbahnen and then see what happens next for them.

The hosts take away a lot of good memories

The Schrepfs also take away many good memories from the Schafreuter.

The incomparable panorama, the friendships with the alpine farmers, the togetherness with the people from Hinteriß and the landlords of the Alpine Club, the freshly renovated hut with a new kitchen and Salettl: all these are pluses with which the Alpine Club is now trying to attract new hosts.

Experience shows: "Finding someone is not difficult - but finding someone good is," says hut warden Max Nichtl.

Last time, 20 applications were received.

In addition to (hut) gastronomic experience, the Alpine Association would like applicants to have some “manual skills and technical understanding”, says Nichtl.

The hut has its own power supply and its own water and sewage system.

"You have to be able to operate that."

The application deadline is mid-December

From May to mid-October, the hut owners would have to be prepared to spend around the clock on the mountain seven days a week and to cope with long working days.

With regard to the character of the remote Tölzer Hütte, the board of directors Hirschmann emphasizes that even after the major renovation, the accommodation has remained “not a luxury hut with the character of a hotel, but an alpine refuge”, where there are no showers for the guests, for example due to the lack of water and for reasons of environmental protection .

The position is currently advertised on the Tölz section's website and on its social media channels.

According to the board, you can apply until December 12th.
