Gérald Darmanin called on Thursday, October 14 the prefects to "
total vigilance
" more particularly "
in and around schools
", two days before the commemorations of the assassination of the teacher Samuel Paty, a year ago.

In a tweet, the Minister of the Interior refers to a telegram sent to the prefects and consulted by AFP, in which he underlines that these commemorations will take place on Friday and Saturday when the trial of the November 13 attacks is being held. 2015 at the Paris courthouse and in the more general context of the entry into force of the law (...) confirming respect for the principles of the Republic (law against separatism, editor's note).

On October 16, 2020, the history and geography professor Samuel Paty, aged 47, was stabbed and then beheaded, in a street near the college where he was teaching in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), by a radicalized Chechen refugee who reproached him for having shown caricatures of Muhammad in class.
The 18-year-old assassin was killed shortly after by police.
