The World Health Organization today called for the sharing of coronavirus vaccines to make universal coverage a reality.
“We are working with world leaders to support the prioritization and planning needed to make 40 percent coverage a reality through hard work and ambition,” Reuters quoted WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as saying at a press briefing.
Ghebreyesus called on companies that control the supply of Covid-19 vaccines to prioritize supply for the Kovacs Vaccine Sharing Program in order to meet vaccination goals.
In the middle of last month, Tedros called on manufacturers to prioritize the Kovacs and Pest initiatives, and also called on countries with high levels of coverage to waive vaccines they intend to share in the near term in favor of countries with a low vaccination rate and immediately fulfill their pledges on sharing vaccines and facilitating technology exchange.
On the other hand, the World Health Organization confirmed today that the weekly deaths due to the Corona pandemic continue to decline, while warning that some countries’ adoption of booster doses to confront the virus deprives other countries of vaccines.
