The SAR government has reached a tripartite agreement with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization and the pharmaceutical manufacturer AstraZeneca to donate 7.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to the Global Access Mechanism for Covid-19 Vaccines (COVAX).

The Secretary for Food and Health, Chen Zhaoshi, said when attending a commercial TV program this morning that the Hong Kong government has bought 750 doses of Kexing and Fubitai vaccines, enough for Hong Kong people to use, even if a third injection is needed.

She pointed out that the relevant decision was to discuss for a period of time and refused to disclose the cost based on a non-disclosure agreement, but that the vaccine would have to be repackaged and shipped, which would cost millions more.

Chen Zhaoshi pointed out that there is no need for AstraZeneca as the third vaccine, and the current supply of two vaccines is sufficient.

The whole batch of donations is relatively simple and quick. If you donate each vaccine, it will delay the arrangement.

The WHO recently recommended that people over 60 years of age who have a weakened immune system and who have completed vaccinations with Sinopharm and Kexing vaccine receive a third dose of the new crown vaccine booster.

Chen Zhaoshi said that the expert committee had met to discuss earlier, and still wanted to review more local research data before making a decision.

She pointed out that if you start to play the third forward, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems may give priority to vaccination. Generally, vaccination will be arranged according to different age groups.

She pointed out that the current vaccination rate for the elderly is not high enough, 60 to 69 years old, but 70 to 79 years old is worth 40%, 80 years old is only about 15%, we need to continue to promote.
