Two 17-year-old boys have been arrested in the state of New South Wales in Australia after being run over and beaten to death by 14 kangaroos, including two small puppies.
The case caused a severe shock in the country due to the violent nature of the acts and the young age of the perpetrators.
Police were called to the scene at Long House, south of Sydney, where seven kangaroo carcasses were found.
A police investigation revealed seven more animals were killed as well as a puppy that was seriously injured but survived.
The boys responsible for the acts were identified by police and arrested shortly after the dead animals were exposed.
They will be brought before a juvenile judge and can face up to five years in prison, for a pair of fines of over 20,000 Australian dollars for the acts.
An animal welfare organization took the injured puppy and gave it the name "Hope", which means hope.
The condition of the little joey (kangaroo puppy) has stabilized since then and the association that treats him is estimated to be able to survive and recover.
