Hundreds of people will demonstrate tonight (Wednesday) in Be'er Sheva against crime in the Negev, under the headline "The Negev is bleeding: the citizens' protest," and in the slogan "Give us back our security."

The demonstrators will gather outside the Be'er Sheva District Court, and from there will march to the city hall.

The demonstration comes against the backdrop of the publication of data on rampant crime in the Southern District, where nearly a quarter of the country's violent offenses take place in the South, and last year more investigations were opened in the district than in any other district.

Among the latest criminal incidents, on Saturday, police arrested a 15-year-old boy in the town of Hura, in possession of a Glock pistol and two cartridges with bullets.

This, after the police were called to the settlement when they received reports of gunshots, and police officers who caught the boy there conducted a search on him.

On Friday night, masked unknown individuals fired at a business in Rahat for a long time without interruption, as part of a conflict between families, which erupted after a major brawl involving about 20 people.

Police arrested a 30-year-old resident of Rahat on suspicion of the act.

Documentary posted on social media shows two men wearing masks outside the vehicle, pulling out weapons and opening fire for about half a minute.

On a nearby street, people were seen spending time in a restaurant when they were frightened and with screams in the background.

Meanwhile, last Tuesday, 600 Southern District police officers embarked on a huge operation to eradicate crime, using skimmers, helicopters, dogs and cavalry, and conducted raids across the Negev, during which they seized weapons, drugs and large sums of cash.

Nachshon Nagler, commander of the Negev region who took office a few months ago, stated: "With the feeling of the citizens, it is impossible to argue. There was a breach of security in Be'er Sheva, my job is to restore security to Be'er Sheva and the Negev. That is my mission."
