Hurricane Pamela made landfall on Wednesday morning north of the Sinaloan city of Mazatlán, on the Mexican Pacific coast, where it is leaving heavy rains and gusts of wind.
The cyclone
gained strength and became a hurricane again just before impacting 40 miles northwest of Mazatlán
, a significant tourist enclave in the country.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its morning report that the center of the hurricane has
maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour
and is moving northeast at 14 miles per hour toward Texas.

The NHC warned of the potential for
life-threatening
storm
surges, flash flooding
and dangerous winds around the impact zone.

Pamela will weaken crossing northern Mexico and
could hit the Texas border as a tropical depression on Thursday

Its remnants may in any case discharge heavy rains in central Texas and southeastern Oklahoma in the coming days.
