Sydney
It is an area the size of a third of France, located in the tropical northeast of Australia. At its heart, Daintree National Park, home to the oldest forest in the world. The first trees of this immense tropical jungle, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, would have grown there 180 million years ago. This jungle adjoins another classified site, the Great Barrier Reef, and constitutes a veritable reservoir of Australian biodiversity. It is especially in the shade of its bushy foliage that we find the solitary and very discreet cassowary with a helmet. A bird whose ire it is best not to arouse, especially because of the long claw with which it can kill with a single swipe of its paw. This is perhaps the reason why the officer cadets of Saint-Cyr chose it as a symbol, their headgear, the shako, being adorned with a white and red plume.
