SPD country chief Franziska Giffey had announced last Friday that her party's preference was a traffic light coalition made up of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP.

Meanwhile, the Berlin tenants' association SPD and Greens warned on Wednesday against entering into a coalition with the FDP.
