Good news for the swimmers from the district: The emergency renovation of the Karlsfeld indoor swimming pool will be completed earlier than expected.

Comprehensive repairs to the bathroom will then follow from 2023.

Karlsfeld

- It was no less than bad news that the Karlsfeld community had to announce at the end of July: The reopening of the indoor pool has been delayed by months.

Several heavy rains in the previous weeks had led to extreme water ingress over the roof, which was in need of renovation.

The safety of the visitors could no longer be guaranteed, it was said at the time.

The result: instead of the planned opening at the end of August, it will be closed until the end of the year.

At the digital citizens' meeting last Monday, however, Mayor Stefan Kolbe had halfway positive news about the indoor pool: the reopening can be expected not at the end of the year, but at the end of November (we reported).

In the summer, the building management department of the Karlsfeld municipal administration put together an emergency renovation concept.

The aim was to get the roof so tight that the bathroom can be opened again - and that it can then be used for two or three more years.

In mid-July, the companies were commissioned to turn the Karlsfeld indoor swimming pool into a construction site, albeit not visible from the outside.

The bathroom was completely scaffolded inside, which meant enormous effort.

Because the sensitive steel pools in particular had to remain undamaged.

The specialist companies dismantled the suspended ceiling, all structures attached to the ceiling were checked, and concrete repair and sealing measures on the ceiling structure followed.

Currently there is only a few water leaks through the roof.

The last work should be completed shortly.

"This is followed by a thorough cleaning and the start-up of the technology by November 15," said Kolbe on Monday.

"The planned opening is from November 29th." Unless there are "further unforeseeable deteriorations in the roof structure" in the coming months, two to three years will be gained, Kolbe concluded.

The Karlsfeld indoor swimming pool is not only in need of renovation because of the leaky roof.

Other “central parts” of the building are also ailing, according to the municipal administration.

At the beginning of the year the local council decided unanimously that the bath should be renovated and not closed.

In the extremely well-attended meeting, there was applause from the audience.

It is currently expected to cost around 11 million euros.

Preliminary planning and detailed costing are currently in progress.

In the second quarter of 2022, the municipal council will decide on the basis of the results of the preliminary planning and costing whether the decision on the redevelopment can stand.

When renovation work begins, the first work will begin in 2023, and in 2026 the Karlsfeld indoor pool should be fit again for the next 25 years.
