The Federal Government's anti-Semitism commissioner, Felix Klein, has criticized the burial of a Holocaust denier on the former grave of a scientist of Jewish origin. "It is actually an extremely unfortunate mistake that has been made here," said Klein to the German press agency. "I have already spoken to those involved and those responsible have given credible assurance that they will work up the case thoroughly internally and create structures in the future so that something like this no longer happens."
Berlin - According to the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO), the man was buried last Friday in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf on the former grave of the musicologist Max Friedlaender (1852-1934).
According to the EKBO, Friedlaender was a Protestant of Jewish origin.
According to its own statements, the regional church decided not to refuse the request for a grave because everyone has the right to a final resting place.
The cemetery management refused the first request for the grave and then chose Friedlaender's former grave.
