Life expectancy in Saarland fell slightly during pandemic

In Saarland, life expectancy fell minimally in the 2020 pandemic year. For men it fell by 0.06 to 77.66 years compared to the previous year and for women by 0.01 to 82.45 years. This was announced by the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) in Wiesbaden on Tuesday. For the first time, the BIB has also determined for individual federal states how life expectancy has changed in the context of the corona pandemic.

For the first time, the BIB has also determined for individual federal states how life expectancy has changed in the context of the corona pandemic.

Wiesbaden / Saarbrücken - Before the pandemic, life expectancy in Germany increased by around 0.1 years on average every year.

Between 2019 and 2020, however, it fell by 0.26 years to 78.55 for men and by 0.13 years to 83.42 for women.

Life expectancy is not only influenced by Corona, but the virus has a significant impact on it, it said.
