The brother of former president Juan Carlos Varela had a violent altercation with the former president of Panama, Ricardo Martinelli, on Monday leaving a court.
José Luis Varela, known as "Popi" Varela, and former President Martinelli spoke and shouted insults outside the court where the second trial of Martinelli for alleged illegal wiretapping takes place in which "Popi" Varela testified as an alleged victim .
Martinelli has always pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.
The dispute between the men seems to have escalated to the business sphere with the suspension of the commercialization of the products of the Varela family business in a supermarket chain owned by Martinelli.
