Questioning of witnesses in the Dresden trial of left-wing extremist violence

The trial of suspected violent criminals from the left-wing scene continued on Monday at the Dresden Higher Regional Court with an initial questioning of witnesses.

On October 2, 2018, a young woman had seen four hooded men near her home in Leipzig, who immediately afterwards attacked and beat a right-wing extremist.

However, she stated in court that she had not recognized any details because hedges blocked the view of the crime scene.

The co-accused German partner was acquitted.

It has not been proven that the 49-year-old knew about the murder plans of her fiancé.

The victim is her ex-husband.

Before the act, there had been an audit by the tax office in the bankrupt company of the victim. The 51-year-old wanted to report dubious transactions of the 43-year-old to the authority. A tax evasion in the millions was in the room. To discuss the problem, the two men met in a forest parking lot. The defendant tried to dissuade the 51-year-old from revealing himself to the tax office.

When this did not succeed, he suddenly stabbed his victim with a screwdriver and hit him on the head with a hammer until he was sure that his victim was dead.

The court noted 47 blows and stitches, 39 of them on the head.

The 51-year-old had no chance to escape.

"The victim should be eliminated in the tax proceedings," the presiding judge Fernando Sanchez-Hermosilla was convinced.

After the fact, the defendant put his former business partner in the trunk of the car.

One witness noticed the blood-smeared rear of the car.

According to the court, the defendant "in principle" admitted to having killed the 51-year-old before the trial began.

The judge commented on his statements about the crime as follows: “That is all a lie.” The defendant is the father of two children, one he and the ex-wife of the victim have.

With the sentence, the court complied with the pleading of the public prosecutor's office and the accessory prosecution.

According to the court, his defense lawyers had not spoken out in favor of imprisonment for more than ten years for manslaughter.

In the end, both the prosecution and the defense pleaded for acquittal for the co-accused partner.

At the beginning of the trial, the prosecutors assumed that the woman was involved in the crime.
