Popular hiking trail in Mittenwald can be used again

Mittenwald - The path between Mittenwald via the Aschauer Alm to Krün can now be used continuously again. In July, the flood coming from the Karwendel severely damaged the foundations of the Seinsbach Bridge, making the path virtually impassable. “The water masses had also destroyed the abutments on the bridge,” explains river engineer Andreas Funk from the Weilheim water management authority, “in addition, the old wooden structures were rotten and should have been replaced anyway. As specialists, we therefore stood by the market town of Mittenwald in an advisory capacity ”.

The first consideration was a one-sided renewal of the submerged side walls on the left in the direction of the river. “But we then decided to fix it on both sides,” adds Veronika Boldinger as deputy head of hydraulic engineering and water development at the Weilheim water management office. "We suggested to the community that an eight-meter-wide stream bed should be bordered on both sides with armourstones," said the expert. This takes a lot of its force from the stream of Seins.

For Verena Hornsteiner, head of the civil engineering department, this is a comprehensible solution.

“At the same time, we also renewed the old wooden bridge and the Bad Tölz forestry company provided us with appropriate storage space during the construction work”.

The Mittenwald building yard under the direction of Christoph Hagn was responsible for the construction.

The work on site was outsourced to the Achatz excavator from Krün.

All in all, a good solution for Mittenwald's mayor, Enrico Corongiu.

“A compliment to everyone involved for the good planning and execution.

The community has invested 20,000 euros so that the popular hiking trail is now passable again throughout ”.
