After the election debacle last month, the CDU decided to undertake an apparently overdue basic renovation.
A veteran keeps out of it.
Berlin - The results of the federal election over two weeks ago could hardly have been worse for the Union.
It is scenes like his laugh in the flood zone that many voters see as the cause of the debacle: Armin Laschet laughs heartily at a press conference on the devastating catastrophe in Germany, while Steinmeier addresses the public in the foreground.
The veteran turns away: An MP no longer wants to be part of the federal executive board
Some Union politicians are now drawing their conclusions from this.
The calls for the resignations of the top politicians are getting louder and louder - and not only Armin Laschet is affected.
A renewal of the entire top of the Union should be here.
One who wants to stay out of it is apparently Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble.
According to
dpa
information
, the 79-year-old wants to
exercise his newly won direct mandate for the Bundestag for the full term of office.
"He is not available for a candidacy for the federal executive committee of his party," said a spokesman for the MP.
Schäuble has had enough: “Not available” for candidacy in the CDU federal executive committee
It is not yet clear when exactly the historic CDU party congress will take place.
You can currently choose between December and January.
So far, Schäuble was a member of the CDU presidium as President of the Bundestag.
However, this office goes to the strongest power in parliament at every election, so it will probably be filled by an SPD member in the future.
The exploratory talks are in full swing here - by Friday there should be clarity about the next steps and possible coalition negotiations.
