"We are well prepared for winter service on the state and federal highways," said a spokeswoman for the German press agency.
According to this, 80,000 tons of the white grit are stored in the 125 master workshop and external warehouses alone against the slippery winter roads.
In addition, a road salt reserve of 40,000 tons is available in the central warehouse in Rheinberg.
A delivery contract with the salt industry guarantees additional security: "If we have to reorder in an exceptionally severe winter, delivery is usually quick," the spokeswoman said.
