The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the decision submitted by the International Fact-Finding Mission in Libya to the International Council for Human Rights does not contain evidence that Russian citizens have committed crimes in this country.

Russia Today quoted Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova in a comment today that the information contained in the first report submitted by the aforementioned mission on October 7 during the 48th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council needs in-depth study, but even a preliminary analysis of the text of the report raises questions Several regarding its content, especially with regard to adherence to the principle of objectivity and impartiality.

Zakharova added that most of the report's output is based on conversations with unnamed victims and information from open sources of dubious credibility, including a blatant propaganda report prepared by the British BBC that spread lies about alleged war crimes committed by Russian citizens in Libya.

The spokeswoman reiterated Moscow's denial of the presence of Russian military personnel in Libya, saying, "It is unfortunate that the authors of the report have surrendered "intentionally or unintentionally" to the desires of the forces that seek to fabricate a false narrative about Moscow's participation in the Libyan armed confrontation through its open support to one of the parties to the conflict. and distorting the image of Russian policy on its Libyan track.”

Zakharova stated that the authors of the report forgot the causes of the dire humanitarian situation in Libya, which she said lie in the destruction of the Libyan state in 2011 by the NATO countries that carried out aggression against a sovereign state that is a member of the United Nations.

It is noteworthy that a three-person fact-finding mission to Libya was established in implementation of a resolution issued in this regard by the Human Rights Council in 2020.

The mission of the mission is to investigate reports of violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in Libya since 2016.
