The completely renovated sailing training ship “Gorch Fock” has completed its first training trip to Flensburg.

The regular crew did not set sail on the journey from their home port to the Mürwik naval school on Tuesday, as a marine spokesman said in Kiel on Wednesday.

Kiel - From Flensburg, the ship and crew will start again on Thursday with destination Kiel.

There are 120 men and women on board.

Because of the three-master's years of shipbuilding, only 28 of them have sailing experience with the ship.

The next training trip is scheduled to start from the Canary Island of Tenerife at the beginning of 2022.

On October 4th, the “Gorch Fock” returned to her home port of Kiel for the first time in around six years.

For the last part of the journey home, Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (CDU) and the Inspector of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kay-Achim Schönbach, accompanied the crew on board.
