Several parliamentary groups against the 2G rule as a duty

Thuringia has one of the highest corona incidences nationwide and at the same time a relatively low vaccination rate.

Health Minister Werner did not rule out a 2G obligation if the health system was overloaded.

The parliamentary groups are skeptical.

Erfurt - Despite increasing corona incidences, several parliamentary groups have initially spoken out against mandatory 2G regulation in certain areas. "Someone who has been tested is initially not a threat to their environment," said SPD health politician Cornelia Klisch of the German Press Agency. 2G could increase the vaccination pressure, but she was in favor of doing more educational work first.

2G means that only people who have been vaccinated or have recovered from Covid 19 disease should have access to certain areas such as events. Organizers and cultural institutions can currently choose this model, but they don't have to. As a third option, you can choose the 3G Plus model. In addition to those who have been vaccinated and recovered, people with a special test are also allowed access. In return, a number of infection protection rules can then be dispensed with with 2G and 3G Plus.

The CDU member Thadäus König spoke out in favor of expanding the 2G model to include restaurants and hotels - as a possibility, but not as an obligation.

"We should rather work on the vaccination campaign so that many more people can be vaccinated." He reckons that many organizers will opt for the 2G model anyway because the necessary 3G-Plus tests are too expensive and time-consuming.

The health policy spokeswoman for the Green Group, Babette Pfefferlein, advocated testing the newly introduced models first.

Thuringia's Minister of Health Heike Werner (Linke) last week did not completely rule out a 2G obligation under certain conditions - as a kind of ultima ratio (last resort) to prevent closings.

"But it may well be that with high numbers of infections you have to make even higher restrictions, which can then also be a 2G model," said Werner.

She added: "Strictly prescribed for all areas, that would be the case if we see that the pandemic is so stressful the health system that no other measure at this point would be sufficient."

New corona regulation with few changes

After discussions about the introduction of a 2G model, for example for visiting clubs and discos, a new ordinance was initially announced in Thuringia without such regulations.

It should come into force on Sunday, as can be seen from the regulation text published online on Friday.

It should therefore apply until October 17th.

Anyone who has not yet been vaccinated against Corona in Berlin could have a problem in the future getting to a restaurant or an event.

Because providers will soon be able to switch to the 2G model, which means that guests no longer have to wear a mask.

Cabinet deals with 2G model

In its next meeting, the cabinet will deal with a possible introduction of a 2G model in Thuringia.

Today (1 p.m.) Thuringia's Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee (SPD) and Health Minister Heike Werner (left) want to inform about the status of the discussion.

2G stands for vaccinated or recovered after a corona infection.

The chairwoman of the state government's scientific advisory board, Petra Dickmann, confirmed Werner's position and also argued that 2G could provide a strong vaccination incentive.

"It makes sense, of course, to increase the vaccination quota with all possibilities - including low-threshold offers - and then to make certain social areas actually only accessible to vaccinated people," said Dickmann.

The only way out of the pandemic is through vaccinations.
