Zolling donated 12 100 euros to the aid organization Navis - to the local helpers who did something indescribable during the flood disaster in July.

Zolling

- It was an unimaginable catastrophe when Germany was shaken by an unprecedented flood disaster in July.

Those affected are still struggling with the destruction.

For this reason, the Zolling municipal council decided to donate 10,000 euros to the helping hands on site.

In addition, the citizens of Zollingen donated a total of 2100 euros, which also went to the Navis association from Moosburg.

Now it was the official handover of the donations - the check was accepted by the meanwhile retired Navis boss Wolfgang Wagner.

Surplus from rapid test center

“We thought carefully about who we want to donate to,” said Mayor Helmut Priller. Since the rapid test center in Zolling had generated a large financial surplus, the community wanted to donate it to a charitable cause - the money will be used, among other things, for the community's youth work. When the severe flood disaster hit Germany, Helmut Priller and Zolling's local council decided to donate 10,000 euros to those who had helped in the crisis areas. Under the motto “Helpers help”, navigation systems were ultimately chosen as the recipient. The Moosburger Verein is an association of voluntary helpers who, in national and international disasters, provide forces from commercial enterprises, aviation,Bundle non-profit organizations and private sponsors and use the funds made available in a targeted manner in the disaster area. Before the official handover of the donation, the community citizens of Zolling were also involved in the project, which resulted in a further 2,100 euros. This results in the proud sum of 12,100 euros.

After the flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate, the teams from Navis were on site from the start and secured the drinking water supply in the badly affected Ahrbrück.

In total, the team treated almost seven million liters of water there.

When the donation was handed over in Zolling, Wolfgang Wagner reported on the operation during the flood disaster: "We left as soon as the extent became apparent - conditions were similar to war." The volunteers worked day and night to get the situation under control To supply local people with drinking water.

"We sometimes had people with us who were in Haiti after the environmental disaster," Wagner continued, "but even they had never seen anything like this before."

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Wagner brought a sad but special memory with him to Zolling: the Ahr Valley is known for its winemakers and their high-quality wine - dozens of wine cellars were destroyed by the catastrophe.

Some wine bottles could be recovered from the mud - and are now going down in history as so-called flood wine.

This was - muddy and limited - sold as the "worst vintage" for a good cause.

A bottle of it is now in the Zolling town hall in memory of the flood disaster and its victims.

The donations, for which Navis is very grateful, are used to equip the association.

“So that we are prepared for anything at all times,” said Wagner.
