Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Belarus were listed among "very high" risk travel destinations on Tuesday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). English).
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean also moved to the category "Level 4: Very high level of Covid-19" in the list of travel advisories that the agency updates periodically.
People should avoid traveling to places designated with a "Level 4" notice, the CDC recommends.
Anyone who must travel should be fully vaccinated first, the agency cautions.
Almost 90 destinations are now considered Tier 4.
All destinations that moved to Level 4 this week were previously listed as "Level 3: Covid-19 High."
The Level 3 category is applied to destinations that have had between 100 and 500 cases per 100,000 residents in the last 28 days.

Spain's situation improved, according to CDC criteria, from Level 4 to Level 3. The other five destinations - Gabon, South Korea, Czech Republic, Faroe Islands and Uganda - advanced from Level 2.

Destinations bearing the designation "Level 2: Moderate Covid-19" have seen 50 to 99 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 residents in the last 28 days.
In "Level 1: Low Covid-19" destinations, fewer than 50 new cases have been registered per 100,000 residents during the last 28 days.

In its broader travel guide, the CDC has recommended avoiding all international travel until one is fully vaccinated.
"Fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to contract and spread COVID-19. However, international travel presents additional risks, and even fully vaccinated travelers may be at higher risk of contracting and possibly spreading some variants of COVID-19." the agency said.
