The murder of Gabi Patito, the young woman who posted on social media about her trip across the United States with her partner, was carried out by strangulation - a local source said tonight (Wednesday).

According to Teton County coroner Brent Blue, the body of 22-year-old Petito was in the grounds at Wyoming National Park for three to four weeks before being found by authorities.

Patito resigned from her job and set out on a beach-to-beach trip in July with her fiancé Brian Lowry, documenting the trip in their car in numerous posts she posted on social media.

The two were documented smiling at various nature sites in the United States, and in a video they uploaded to YouTube during the trip they kissed, enjoyed a sunset together and took a walk on the beach.

However, Patito's family reported her absence on September 11 that her relationship with her had been lost, and 23-year-old Audrey returned to his home in Florida without her.

He refused to cooperate with the police, who wanted to investigate him, but he disappeared and the FBI is still pursuing him.

Despite documenting the trip on social media, after Patito's disappearance it was revealed that a violent incident had developed between the couple that involved the police in Utah. Documentation from a police body camera showed Patito agitated, saying that she and Audrey confronted each other. She cried and told the policeman who stopped their vehicle that she was suffering from mental problems. She said she slapped her partner after an argument, but added that she did not intend to harm him.

The policeman decided not to stop them, but he ordered the couple to spend one night separately to calm the spirits.

Patito's murder and the disappearance of her partner received widespread media coverage in the United States and around the world, which also led to a discussion about the much attention given to white absentees while many other women who disappeared and were murdered do not resonate.

Blue, a coroner, said there was a "media circus" around the case.

"Unfortunately, this is one of the many homicides within the family across the country," he said.

"It is unfortunate that these other deaths do not receive such coverage. There are many men and women who lose their lives and are not so covered by the media."
