The DiscoverEU competition, open until October 26, will allow these young Europeans to travel for free, for 30 days, on trains and certain ferries from 33 countries.

A tour of Europe by train to celebrate his majority.

The European Union (EU) is providing 60,000 Interrail passes worth 258 € each to allow its 18-year-old citizens to discover all the richness of the Old Continent.

Since its launch in 2018, this annual competition has allowed 70,000 young people to travel free of charge across Europe, from Portugal to Norway or from Italy to Estonia.

It makes perfect sense this year, with 2021 being designated as the “European Year of Rail” by the Commission.

The DiscoverEU competition could not be held in 2020 due to the health context.

"

Exceptionally, young people eligible for the two application periods [...] can also apply

33 countries to discover by train or ferry

To validate their application, candidates must answer the five multiple-choice questions of a quiz on general knowledge about the EU and its initiatives for young people, then fill in their passport or identity card number. The winners, ranked according to the score obtained, will receive a transport ticket allowing them to travel for a maximum of 30 days between March 1, 2022 and February 28, 2023 on trains and certain ferries from 33 European countries. Note that the selection will be made by nationality according to the number of tickets allocated to each country; a quota set according to its population.

If the Interrail pass was first reserved for young people when it was created in 1972, it can now be used by all Europeans from the age of 4.

The price of the Interrail Global Pass varies according to the chosen validity period.

For an adult, count € 335 for seven days of travel over a month or € 443 for 15 consecutive days.

Discounts of up to 25% apply to those under 27 and over 60.

Something to console the losers or people not eligible for the competition.
