The Fifth Conference of Syrian Doctors, organized by the Medical Syndicate at the Sheraton Hotel in Aleppo, continued its activities for the third day in a row.
The third day's sessions focused on reviewing the latest developments in digestive diseases, general surgery, orthopedic, plastic, otolaryngology, oncology, and innovative treatments worldwide.
Dr. Nihad Mahli, head of the Department of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Aleppo, told SANA reporter that the session devoted to general and gastrointestinal surgery dealt with prosthetic breast surgery, alternate parathyroid transplantation from another patient, vascular interventional surgery on the endocrine glands of the digestive and reproductive systems, and the complications of laparoscopic cholecystectomy during surgery.
In his lecture, Dr. Alaa Al-Dirani, head of the Syrian Association of Surgeons, spoke about mastectomy while preserving the skin and applying this through a surgical and reconstructive operation in a hospital in Aleppo.
In the session devoted to orthopedic surgery, Dr. Rizkallah Malo, Director of Al-Razi Hospital in Aleppo, stated that the topics included medical problems in children, injuries resulting from wars, measures of spastic paralysis in the lower extremities, nutritional deficiencies, congenital hip dislocation and joint replacement.
Dr. Bassam Al-Afandi, an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Aleppo, talked about the problems of joint replacement in the entire hip and the scientific, radiological and clinical techniques that the doctor must adhere to during the surgical procedure.
In the oncology and histopathology session, Dr. Ahmed Faour, Head of the Oncology Department at the Aleppo Health Directorate spoke about the new topics in immunotherapy for tumors and cervical and prostate cancer measures, while Dr. Maher Seifou, Head of the Breast Division at Al-Biruni University Hospital in Damascus, spoke about the treatment of breast cancer.
In the session devoted to ear diseases and their surgery, Dr. Khair El-Din Al-Sayed, a specialist in ear diseases, stated that the topics of the session dealt with mumps, snail cultivation and genetic diseases that cause hearing loss in children, while Dr. Nizar Muhanna, a specialist in ear, nose and throat diseases, talked about the black fungus disease.
In the session devoted to plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Fahd Shribati, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Al-Baath University, referred to the topics of the session, which dealt with rhinoplasty, skin strips, and closing the skin due to financial loss and face and neck injuries.
Dr. Maan Al-Aysami, Head of the Plastic and Reconstruction Division at Al-Mowasat University Hospital in Damascus, spoke about the history of the slides used in skin restoration in order to inform young surgeons and specialists about the new, while Dr. Reem Hamami, a plastic surgeon, pointed out the importance of reconstructive surgery and the treatment of physical loss of the skin and lesions that are removed and in need of body restoration from during positional slides.
