Medical Committee (Photo: ShutterStock)
This happens to many who apply for a disability pension from the Social Security: after submitting the application, they come to a medical committee that examines their case, but end up "screwing up", and in the moment of truth fail to express themselves clearly and focused, and fail to exercise their rights.
There are a number of mistakes made by insured persons who come to medical committees in the National Insurance Institute, but the trouble is that these mistakes can pay dearly.
In the following lines we would like to present some of these mistakes, and emphasize how important it is to reach the medical committee accompanied by a skilled lawyer with experience in the subject.

Mistake 1: Lie or exaggerate
Some of the insured who come to the committee do not present the full picture regarding their condition, reveal only some of the medical documents in their possession or simply lie to the committee.
This is a serious mistake, as sooner or later the commission discovers the true picture, and the rights of the insured may be deprived of it.
Mistake 2: Arriving late
Insured people sometimes tend to underestimate the time of the committee, arrive late, and not check in advance in which room it convenes and at what time.
Granted, your queue may be delayed, and you may find yourself waiting outside, but it's best to arrive ahead of time so as not to upset committee members.

Mistake 3: Come tired
Another mistake is to appear before the committee tired and unfocused.
Everyone who comes to the committee has limited time, and must be sharp and focused.
Each insured is required to present his case in a short and purposeful manner, without fatigue but also without omitting details.
To do this one must rest first and not get to the committee drowsy.
Mistake 4: Arrive without prior preparation
Since appearing before the committee is a stressful class it would be a big mistake not to prepare for it.
Before appearing on the committee it is advisable to write down the main points you want to raise so as not to forget anything, and also do a few rehearsals at home in front of a family member or close friend of what you want to say.
Mistake 5: Come with only some of the documents
Despite the fact that your medical documents are supposed to go to Social Security along with the claim you are filing, it is highly recommended to come to the committee with copies of all the documents, and not omit anything.
It is important that you go over the various medical documents carefully so that you can master them when you appear before the committee.
Mistake 6: Sign without reading the protocol
At the end of the medical committee, the insured is asked to sign the committee's protocol and confirm that he faithfully reflects what has been said.
The trouble is that in many cases insureds do not bother to read the protocol at all and sign it automatically.
This is a mistake, as the protocol may not include all of the insured's complaints, and if you insist on this you can demand to add the same complaint before you sign.
Mistake 7: Come without a lawyer
Appearing before a medical committee is not child's play.
It requires prior preparation, collection of relevant documents and performance of simulations.
Therefore, getting to the committee without being represented by a skilled lawyer with experience in the matter may turn out to be a serious mistake that will cost you dearly so that you will not exhaust your rights.
