In future, students in Thuringia should be able to take a free rapid corona test twice a week.
The universities would have to pay for the tests from the state's allocations and also organize test offers on site, the Ministry of Science announced in Erfurt on Wednesday.
This results from the corona occupational health and safety ordinance of the federal government in connection with the regulations of the statutory accident insurance.
Erfurt - State occupational health and safety regulations are also to be applied to those with accident insurance, such as students, it said.
Until now, this obligation to hold tests had only applied to university employees.

Before the start of the winter semester in North Rhine-Westphalia, the university rectors in the state criticized the 3G rule at universities.
"The obligation cannot be met in terms of personnel and logistics for all event sizes," said Lambert T. Koch, chairman of the state rectors' conference of the universities in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rheinische Post (Monday).

The decision is based on an agreement between the Ministry, the State Rectors' Conference of Saxony and the Saxony University of Cooperative Education.

The University of Jena had previously planned to set up a small test center at which, for example, tests should be carried out for students who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
A nationwide test center has not yet been planned, said a spokeswoman.
