The murder case of taxi drivers on the East Street in Western District that alarmed all of Hong Kong. After about 40 hours of raids, the police finally arrested the suspect in a store outside of Lamma Island with information provided by the enthusiastic public.
The 31-year-old mixed-race male suspect was escorted by the Marine Police to the Sai Wan River Marine Police Headquarters, and then escorted to the police station by a private car of the Police Crime Squad.
Chief Criminal Inspector Xie Zikun of the First Team of the Hong Kong Island Regional Crime Squad stated that the incident occurred at 4:50 am on the 12th (Tuesday) when a citizen found the male deceased on the East Street near Queen's Road West yelling for help. He then left. The taxi fell to the ground without support and was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital where he died at 6:17 am.
Police arrested the 31-year-old mixed-race man outside a store in Yung Shue Wan, Lamma Island at 8:36 pm on the 13th.

Xie revealed that there was a 7 cm long and 2 cm deep scar on the right back neck of the deceased, which was believed to be caused by a sharp weapon after a forensic examination.
After the incident, several police units sent personnel to investigate, including car CAM, nearby hotels and closed-circuit televisions in shops, etc., and learned that the suspect walked out of a hotel near Dongbian Street before the incident and immediately boarded the taxi involved. Leaving the taxi only about 1 minute later, fled towards the west of Des Voeux Road.
The police officer then recovered a bag containing a kitchen knife and some clothing on the rooftop of a nearby building.
It is believed that the suspect changed clothes and clothes in the district, and then boarded the boat to Lamma Island on the same day to evade hunting.
He continued that after in-depth investigation and data analysis, the police learned that the suspect was suspected to be hiding on Lamma Island. The crime team officers went to Lamma Island for a search operation yesterday (13th).
In the evening, the police received a report from enthusiastic citizens stating that the target person was found outside the store, and the marine police and uniformed officers went to arrest him immediately.
When the suspect was arrested, he had no weapons, no resistance, and no superficial injuries.
The detective then found a bag in the bushes near Stow, which contained a pocket knife with a blade length of 9 cm and a stab-resistant vest. It is not yet known whether it is related to the case.
In addition, alcoholic beverages were also found near the suspect.
As for the relationship between the suspect and the deceased, Xie pointed out that the two did not know each other and were investigating the cause of the murder.
The police believe that the suspect committed the crime alone, but they are also investigating that there is no one instigating or assisting the suspect to hide. When asked whether the suspect is mentally ill, Xie bluntly said that he has no relevant medical records, but he does not rule out his own mental problems, so it is also one of the directions of investigation.
In addition, it was alleged that the suspect had relatives and friends in Hong Kong. Xie said that he would contact him, but could not disclose more details.
He said frankly that the taxi CAM did not actually record the incident and the cause, and it is still unknown what happened within 1 minute.
However, when the police analyzed the information, they learned that there were pedestrians and other vehicles passing by at the time of the incident. Therefore, they urged that if witnesses or other vehicles CAM recorded the incident, please contact the police.
