Munich - Because of a roof fire in Obermenzing *, residents had to leave their apartment building on Thursday night (October 14).
"Fortunately, no one was injured," said the fire brigade in a press release.

Some of the sleeping residents had been awakened by a "strange crackle".
Shortly afterwards, they discovered that the roof of their house was on fire.
They immediately informed all neighbors and fled the building with them.
A little later, several calls were received by the integrated control center of the fire brigade.
When the fire brigade arrived, 26 of the 27 residents had already fled the apartment building.
An 83-year-old still needed support from emergency services.
The roof structure burned over the entire length of 25 meters.

“An extensive fire fighting attack was initiated immediately and other forces were alerted.
At 4.50 am, the fire was almost extinguished with the help of two turntable ladders, which put out the fire with reversible pipes, as well as two other C-pipes in the interior attack, ”says the press release on the operation.

Since the building will remain uninhabitable for the time being, 16 residents had to be taken to emergency shelters.
Everyone else stayed with relatives and friends.
The cause of the fire is so far unclear
In order to avert further damage, the municipal utilities switched off the power to the building.
Since the statics of the building were affected, the head of operations called in the local building commission and the technical relief organization to assess and support the statics.
“In order to protect the house from the weather, an emergency roof in the form of a foil is attached.
The work will probably continue until Thursday noon ”, inform the emergency services.
According to the fire brigade *, the amount of property damage incurred and the cause of the fire are so far unknown, the police are investigating.
