On Thursday, Kohl missed the required majority of the votes cast twice with 44 and 43 yes votes respectively.
The AfD has 23 of 97 members of parliament and was therefore dependent on support from other parliamentary groups.
After the two failed elections in the state parliament, Kirchner said that with this approach one was doing “a disservice to parliament and democracy”.
The Left, SPD and Greens had announced before the state parliament meeting that they would vote against Kohl.

In July Gunnar Schellenberger (CDU) was elected as the new president of the state parliament.
