An Algerian soldier was killed and two others were wounded by a mine explosion on their patrol in the west of the country.
The Algerian Ministry of Defense stated in a statement issued this evening that a border guard patrol was exposed yesterday to the explosion of a homemade mine during a reconnaissance mission near the western border of the country in the state of Tlemcen, which led to the death of a soldier with the rank of sergeant and the injury of two soldiers with the rank of corporal and a corporal.
The statement added, "Following this cowardly attack, all necessary security measures were taken to cordon off and comb the area, and to determine all the merits and circumstances of this terrorist act."
The Algerian army is constantly pursuing terrorist groups in a number of states and destroying their hideouts and weapons to maintain the country's security.
