Füssen - What should become of Morisse and Innere Kemptener Straße?

And the citizens took advantage of this offer: around 120 people from Füssen obtained information and made suggestions and tips.
"We wanted to talk to the citizens, use their local knowledge and find out what they want," said Mayor Maximilian Eichstetter (CSU), summarizing the objectives of the event.

The subjects of traffic, development, living space and a redesign of Kemptener Strasse were particularly important to the citizens.

Traffic
Almost all visitors agreed that individual traffic in the city center must be reduced and differentiated solutions for parking must be found.
A distinction should be made between tourist traffic, which must be intercepted well in front of the city center, the possibility for customers to reach the city center and the offer of permanent parking spaces for residents and employees in the city center.
Almost all of the interviewees thought a shuttle service to the city center and, if necessary, further to the castles would be a promising approach.

Development
The citizens involved often wished that the buildings would not disturb the view of the High Castle and the rock breakthrough to Bad Faulenbach.
The great majority of citizens were able to get used to the idea that a quarter with public green space and a compact quarter square with social infrastructure and café could be created on the Morisse.
Most citizens, however, rejected additional retail outlets as not being necessary.
Many respondents brought up cross-generational concepts and facilities as well as service structures for older citizens.
There also seems to be a need for space for civic activities, socioculture and clubs.
Young people from Füssen wanted, for example, community beds and urban gardening projects for families.

Many are concerned about the development of the housing market and especially the competition with second homes.
Inexpensive living space for single people, young families and the older generation was a point of discussion in many discussions.

Redesign of Kemptener Strasse
A redesign and traffic calming of Kemptener Straße welcomed all citizens. Many wanted an attractive urban space with a high quality of stay, which offers space for markets, cultural events, gastronomy, but above all encounters and local recreation and yet does not restrict the accessibility of the city center by car. Mayor Eichstetter was impressed by the active participation of the citizens and thanked them for the many constructive suggestions. With a view to the ideas for Inner Kemptener Strasse, the town hall chief now wants to suggest to the city council that they look for quick - perhaps only provisional - solutions here.
"The city neither wants to build everything up on the Morisse, nor endanger the existing and important business occupation of the old town or even give up the important parking spaces close to the city center without replacement."

Ultimately, it is a matter of strengthening the adjacent city center through a sustainable and targeted redesign of the Morisse, especially for the locals.
