- Sabine Dunker, head of the Grasbrunn community library, reported to the main committee about two "rapid" Corona years.

The classifications ranged from completely closed to equal rights with brothels, cultural assets, and finally educational institutions.

In addition there were "own handicaps", now it is fully open again.

"The years 2020 and 2021 were really not easy for us," said Dunker. "So it was always a little more relaxed, for a long time we could only hand out books and media through our window, and they could only be returned at the counter." In addition, one had to struggle with a large amount of water damage. Everything that had been completely renovated on the ground floor just a few months earlier had to be cleared out. "All books and shelves had to be moved upstairs, for a long time we could only hand out books downstairs next to the building dryers."

At Christmas time one communicated with the Grasbrunners via changing handicraft instructions in the showcase, the culture café developed as a workplace for the employees. "We have been able to welcome our first visitors again since March of this year, and we have also constantly redecorated our window to draw attention to the new books," said Dunker. The library and culture café have been officially open again since September, with maximum visitor numbers and data collection. A reading is currently planned on October 22nd with the former editor-in-chief of the magazine “kraut & rüben” about “My garden for life”, there will be an upcycling workshop for old books, a horror evening and handicrafts for children.

For the future, Dunker would like a cargo bike in which she can transport the heavy book boxes and the screen and books for the picture book cinema.

"And an elevator would be very important, many older readers can no longer make it to the upper floor on foot, that would be very important."

Mayor Klaus Korneder (SPD) thanked the team for the great work “the accessibility is unsatisfactory in the whole house, also for VHS, bowling alley and shooters in the basement”.

Unfortunately, the TÜV does not allow the use of the freight elevator, we have to do something. ”Bb

Assortment:

The library has 12,000 items to borrow.

There are currently 700 library cards that are used regularly.

In 2020 there were only 6,500 visitors and only 12,000 loans, in previous years 40,000 to 50,000 books and media were loaned out.
