Semiconductor shortages, rising energy costs and delivery bottlenecks are also affecting the German automotive industry.

Many suppliers are now worried about their existence.

Hagen - The rampant problems at BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler & Co. are affecting automotive suppliers more and more.

Therefore, they have now warned the federal government of a collapse in the supply chain in a “fire letter”.

"Destructive market barriers, production stoppages due to a lack of chips and drastically increased energy costs are becoming a ruinous mix for suppliers and endangering Germany as a business location."

The managing director of the Sheet Metal Forming Industry Association (IBU), Bernhard Jacobs, warned of this in a letter written jointly with the Solid Forming Industry Association (IMU), the German Screw Association (DSV) and the Association of the German Spring Industry (VDFI).

Automotive industry: The current situation is extremely dangerous

The current situation is extremely dangerous for medium-sized suppliers, said Jacobs.

The lack of chips is forcing automobile manufacturers to cut production.

According to the associations, this causes a drop in sales of over 30 percent for suppliers.

In addition, there would be liquidity bottlenecks due to products that were not accepted.

DSV managing director Hans Führlbeck appealed to the car manufacturers not to pass the chip risk on to the suppliers.

The manufacturers' good earnings situation certainly allows this.

Suppliers hold the automotive industry and the state accountable

The associations demanded that a close alliance between the automotive industry and suppliers is now necessary.

In addition, the state must do its own thing to limit energy costs for companies.

"Anyone who leaves the suppliers alone now is endangering Germany as a business location," warned the four associations.
