The Berlin Greens have welcomed the SPD's decision to explore a red-green-red alliance in the capital.
"I am pleased that we are a big step further," said Green top candidate Bettina Jarasch on Thursday.
The Greens exploratory team agreed that the political challenges in Berlin could best be mastered by an alliance with the SPD and the left.
Berlin - The governing mayor-designate Franziska Giffey (SPD) had previously announced that a final exploratory round would only be scheduled with the Greens and the left on Friday.
The goal is to start coalition negotiations next week.
Jarasch said the Green state executive welcomed this approach.
