A carabinieri blitz released yesterday afternoon a 25-year-old Englishman, who had been kidnapped for about 8 days in an apartment in Monte San Giusto (Macerata)
.
4 people arrested, three men and one woman, of which 2 foreigners (in good standing in Italy) and 2 Italians, all residing in the Macerata area.
There are many aspects still to be clarified: the young man had been on vacation in Italy for months and a ransom of only 7,000 euros would have been requested for him.
It was a lightning operation, lasting less than 36 hours, started by the carabinieri of the Ros, on input from the British NCA, in which the Norm of Macerata and the soldiers of Monte San Giusto participated.
The young man was found handcuffed and barefoot, locked in a room of the apartment and monitored on sight by the four who were then arrested. Kidnapping for the purpose of extortion of the alleged crime against them. The details of the operation were disclosed by the provincial commander of the Macerata carabinieri, colonel Nicola Candido, by the commander of the Ros of Ancona Francesco D'Ecclesiis and by the lieutenant colonel Massimiliano Mengasini, commander of the operational department. The young man managed to ask for help during a phone call to family members in Britain to request money, during which he explained, in code, that he was being held against his will. The family members then turned to the National Crime Agency, which activated international collaboration with the military of the Ros.The 25-year-old is now in a protected situation: he is physically fine, but he is very psychologically tested. The type of crime is the responsibility of the Dda of Ancona: at the moment the prosecutor Stefania Ciccioli of the Macerata prosecutor is proceeding by proxy. The validation of the arrests is expected between today and tomorrow.
