The Committee on the Rights of the Child is currently (Thursday) discussing Corona vaccines for children.
The discussion deals with the possibility of vaccinating children aged 12-5 against the virus, and seeks to examine the possible advantages and disadvantages, in an open and professional discourse.
The head of the public health services, Dr. Sharon Elrai Price, is participating in the discussion on behalf of Dr. Dina Zimmerman.
According to Elrai Price, one should be careful when it comes to approving vaccines at such a young age: "We will wait for FDA approval and even after there is approval, there will be a discussion in the vaccines advisory committee, dozens of experts and the committee is open to anyone who wants to participate."
At the same time, she stressed that "hundreds of adults, due to vaccine attenuation, became critically ill and died - some of it was from infecting children as well."
Prof. Rivka Carmi, a geneticist and pediatrician, agreed with Elrai Price and said that "corona is not a childhood disease - but a disease of adults, of people with background diseases. The risk for a healthy child to become infected and be seriously ill is 0.003%."
Prof. Tzachi Grossman, chairman of the Association of Pediatricians, argued on the other hand: "How can we look into the eyes of a mother who asks us if her child will get sick in the sixth wave, why did you wait with the vaccine?
"The arrival of new variants and a jump in the recurrence of the epidemic is today a bon ton until the disease disappears."
Tzafnat Maoz, a mother of vaccinated children, shared with the committee: "The pressure we parents have on vaccinating the children against Corona - causes quite a bit of hesitation and difficulty. There is a chance of side effects but each case must be examined on its own merits."
