Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have kept their distance from the British royal family since the beginning of 2020.

This includes not only the move of the British ducal couple to Los Angeles, but also the decision to be financially on their own.

With their media companies Archewell Audio and Archewell Productions, Meghan and Harry not only produce podcasts that they market on the Spotify platform, but recently also series for Netflix and a documentary for Apple TV +.

This week, the ex-royals couple announced a new deal that brings them closer to the banking world - for a noble cause: Megan and Harry are now so-called "Impact Partners" of the investment company Ethic.

This is apparently intended to help make investment decisions for sustainable companies more suitable for the masses.

The fintech Ethic specializes in sustainable investments and manages $ 1.3 billion in capital. The Duchess and Duke of Sussex are not only prominent figureheads, but recently also investors, according to the Ethic website.

According to a report in the "New York Times", Meghan and Harry hope to "democratize" sustainable investments with their partnership - especially by encouraging younger people to focus more on investments in sustainable companies.

"The younger generation is already voting worldwide with their dollars and pounds when it comes to the brands they choose for themselves," Duke Harry told the newspaper.

It would be a natural extension, Harry suggested, for the younger ones to do the same with their investments.

Ducal couple want to "rethink the essence of investing"

The investment firm Ethic was founded in 2015 and has tripled its managed capital in the past year, according to the report. Ethic makes its investment decisions based on company checks based on social responsibility criteria. Environmental and racism aspects as well as fair working conditions also flow into the ethics assessments. On the "Sustainability for Everyone" platform launched by Ethic, portfolios of individuals can be checked on the basis of various dimensions.

The duke couple describes the goal of their entry at Ethic - somewhat flowery - as follows: "If we invest in each other, we change the world", it says about the ethic partnership on the Archwell website.

"We want to rethink the essence of investing to help solve global challenges."

The partnership with Ethic is one of the ways in which "we put our values into practice".

With their partnership, the ex-royals show that they have a good knack for timing: worldwide, sustainability and investing in sustainable companies are becoming increasingly important, even in the world of high finance.

Larry Fink

, head of the investment giant Blackrock, has been

trying to get

corporations to protect the climate for some time.

Ethic may be a few numbers smaller in its market power - but for younger people it is probably much more attractive and accessible than the world's largest asset manager.
