The planning of the new building yard in Marschall is one of the major projects that is currently keeping the municipal council on the go.
In the most recent meeting, Nicolas Neumann from the Studio Corso and Tucher working group presented the current state of affairs.
Holzkirchen - The new building yard with its three buildings - a main hall, an administration wing and an external warehouse - has now been designed and calculated.
“We can now start with the implementation planning and tendering,” said Neumann.
The next step is to submit the building permit in November, says Neumann when asked by our newspaper.
He is aiming for a possible start of construction at the end of 2022.
But before that, the municipal council had to make a fundamental decision about the roof structure of the main hall.
Neumann showed the advantages and disadvantages of the two possible variants - a structure made of steel with a total height of 13.50 meters or a wooden solution about 80 centimeters higher.
CSU and Free Voters speak out against wooden roof structures
It became clear that the combination of steel lattice girders and rolled sections is the more economical, but not more ecological, option. The procurement of steel is financially cheaper. To do this, you need more wood than steel for the necessary load-bearing capacity. All in all, there is a construction cost difference of around 360,000 euros. Another disadvantage of the wood solution is that “the cubature of the building increases with wooden trusses.” This is due to the larger dimensions of the girders. It should also be noted that windows are built into the roof of the building. “The more massive the supporting structure, the more daylight is shaded,” explains Neumann. Since wooden girders are much more massive than steel girders, it is also clear that more artificial light is needed.In addition, the larger volume of the building goes hand in hand with higher heating costs - roughly an increase of 1,000 euros per year.

Nevertheless, there is no question that “the forming of steel leads to high CO2 emissions”.
Another disadvantage of steel lattice girders can be seen in terms of fire protection.
The annual maintenance of the fire protection coating can be estimated at around 5000 euros.
Robert Wiechmann (Greens) emphasized that it was a wrong sign to “prefer steel, which is the climate sinner,” today.
In the opinion of the Greens, this unsustainable decision is disproportionate to the additional costs and “on top of that, it cannot be argued externally”.
Steel construction variant cheaper - timber construction more ecological
The committee members of the CSU and Free Voters rated this differently. Sebastian Franz, CSU spokesman, said: “We have an ecological obligation, but the economic aspect clearly predominates here.” Second mayor, Birgit Eibl (Free Voters) also spoke out in favor of the steel variant with a view to the additional costs. There was disagreement among the ranks of the Social Democrats. Spokeswoman Elisabeth Dasch said: "We voted two to two in our parliamentary group meeting." Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) pointed out during the debate: “We don't weigh up between an all-steel bunker or a wooden house.
It's just about the roof trusses. ”Therefore, he doesn't quite understand the polarization of the discussion.
In the end, the vote resulted in a majority in favor of the steel variant.
Seven local councils opposed it.
Schmid closed the debate with the words: “We won't save the world with this, but we won't destroy it either.” On the other hand, the municipal council unanimously approved the design planning, including the cost calculation.
