Rome - Italy's government is taking significantly more rigorous action in the corona pandemic than is currently the case in Germany.
A new rule comes into force on Friday, and there is massive opposition to this rule.
New corona rule in Italy: massive resistance
Accordingly, every employee, both in the private sector and in the public sector, must then prove to have been vaccinated, recovered or tested negative.
Only then will you get a so-called “Green Pass”.
Without this pass, nobody is allowed to enter their workplace - for example in offices, factories, shops or public facilities.
The measure affects 23 million workers in Italy.
The government of Prime Minister Mario Draghi passed the decree weeks ago in order to encourage more people to vaccinate.
Around 85 percent of Italians aged twelve and over are vaccinated at least once.
There is fierce opposition to the decision.
Trade unionists and politicians criticize the measure.
In Trieste, the workers are threatening to block the important port;
Chaos is feared in freight transport because many long-distance drivers, especially from abroad, do not have the necessary Corona certificate.
Protests are planned in many cities on Friday, including Rome.
There were serious riots during a demonstration there last Saturday.
