While the SPD, Greens and FDP are in exploratory talks, the Union only has the role of observer.

Criticism of the strategy of the CDU and CSU came from many directions.
But hardly anyone reveals the state of the parties as much as the criticism that is now being heard from their own youth organization.
Junge Union settles after election failure with Union - "lost from own weakness"
In a ten-page paper by the Junge Union (JU), which analyzes the past election campaign and is to be presented to the organization on Friday at the organization's Germany Day, the JU federal executive board is tough on the union.
"We lost out of our own weakness, not because of the strength of others," was the devastating verdict on the Union's election result.

From the point of view of the JU, not everything was bad about the CDU / CSU election campaign.
With a view to the election program, the youth organization strikes a positive note and speaks of the “best election program for 16 years”.
In the opinion of the JU, however, the Union could not stand out through content because it was "neither well nor courageously communicated".

However, the JU classifies the question of the chancellor within the Union parties as a central tactical mistake. Unlike Angela Merkel, he did not win new groups of voters to the Union's core clientele, but on the contrary was a reason for many voters - contrary to, even longstanding, habits - not to vote for the Union. And CSU boss Markus Söder is also held responsible for the election failure, even if he is not mentioned by name.
The JU speaks of an “open or covert dismantling from the leadership circles of the candidate - especially from Munich.” According to the Junge Union, this has made it impossible for Armin Laschet to “develop a positive image”.
Junge Union calls for greater involvement of the grassroots in personnel decisions
With a view to the future, the Junge Union therefore advocates greater involvement of the party base, especially when it comes to personnel decisions.
"In the third groundbreaking personnel decision of the CDU in a row, the base was not included despite clear preferences," the JU analyzes the choice of Laschet as candidate for chancellor of the Union.
That has to change in the future.
