Is speculative madness touching the universe of spirits and, more particularly, whiskey? You could believe it by looking at the results of the last auctions. On October 7, a bottle of an 80-year-old single malt casked on February 3, 1940 at The Glenlivet distillery was sold for 166,775 euros in London by Sotheby's. The next day, a box set of six single malts from The Dalmore (1951, 1967, 1979, 1980, 1995 and 2000) was priced at 200,000 dollars at a sale in Hong Kong… before going for 1.124 million dollars! Quite mind-blowing results which do not only affect international auction places.
After having surveyed the biggest houses, we have selected for you the best of these legendary bottles, auctioned at stratospheric prices, sometimes increased tenfold a few weeks later, during other auctions, some collectors shrinking from no expense. .
