Doctors report an increase in cosmetic surgeries in the corona pandemic.
Above all, minor facial operations have increased, said the President of the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC), Lukas Prantl on Thursday of the German Press Agency.
Prantl speaks of an estimated increase of around 15 percent.
Potsdam - DGPRÄC spokeswoman Kerstin van Ark confirmed the increase from discussions with about 20 to 30 doctors.
The plastic and aesthetic surgeon Prantl suspects that the increase is related to the fact that people in the pandemic are more likely to look in the mirror and are more critical of their faces due to many video phone calls.
The operations in the facial area often involve upper eyelid, face and neck lifts.
But another factor also plays a role in the increase, says Prantl: "During the recovery phase after treatment, patients don't have to be around as often." Questions about a bandage or a change in appearance were less likely - a concern of many patients and patients, according to Prantl.
From Thursday to Saturday, doctors from all over Germany have been meeting at the Kongresshotel Am Templiner See in Potsdam to exchange ideas on various medical topics at the joint annual meeting of the DGPRÄC and the Association of German Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (VDÄPC).
According to the DGPRÄC, around 600 surgeons have registered for the conference.

Aesthetic surgery - also known as cosmetic surgery - counts as plastic surgery, as does reconstructive, burn and hand surgery.
In addition to the experiences during the corona pandemic, the three-day event will also deal with lipedema - a pathological fat distribution disorder that shows up in women on the hips, buttocks and both legs - and breast reconstruction.
