There is a state of emergency in the Tölzer health department.

321 people infected with corona are currently officially in the statistics - more than ever before.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

- The highest number of infections in the district so far had occurred around Christmas 2020.

"On December 11, for example, we had 175 people currently infected, on December 16 there were 180," said District Office press spokeswoman Marlis Peischer on request.

The health department registered 321 cases on Wednesday.

Trend: clearly increasing.

71 new corona infections alone had been added since Tuesday.

Health officials have to work with two different systems

In fact, the number is probably even higher.

The 321 are only the cases that have been quasi "processed" by the health department.

Its employees sit at the interface between laboratories and the Robert Koch Institute.

You could also say: You are sitting between chairs and, above all, between two different software systems.

"With Sormas and SurvNet, we have to use two applications in which the same data is not recorded," explains health department manager Dr.

Stephan Gebrande the difficulty.

Of 486 reported cases, only 321 have been processed so far

In Sormas, laboratory results are transmitted directly to the Tölz authorities. “There are also laboratories that send the results by fax,” says Peischer. The employees of the health department have to call every newly affected person - for example to find out how the infected person is doing, whether he is in the hospital or to send him into isolation. From time to time it also happens that cases incorrectly open up in Tölz and then have to be assigned to other health authorities, says Peischer. Some messages are also not updated on a daily basis. On Wednesday, for example, there were also findings from Monday. “You can count on about 15 minutes per case processing - provided you can reach the person concerned immediately,” says Peischer. You can extrapolate how long it will take with the current number of cases.

Only cases that could be contacted are sent to the Robert Koch Institute via SurvNet, where they are included in the official statistics.

Specifically, the picture on Wednesday at 11 a.m. looked like this: 486 positive cases were noted in Sormas, but only the 321 specifically processed cases were transmitted via SurvNet.

"With the previous infection figures, the reports from both applications could still be merged by an employee in the health department, but that now ties up too much capacity," says Peischer.

Contacting the contact persons can take time

In fact, there is currently a state of emergency in the health department. "We have to clearly set a focus in order to be able to cope with the rising corona numbers," says Gebrande. This focus is on case processing. After that comes the contact tracking. "Unfortunately, we can no longer catch up on this in a timely manner, so that contact persons in particular often have to wait a long time for a call or an e-mail from the health department," says Gebrande. That too turned out to be even easier at the end of last year because there was support from the Bundeswehr at the time. “At the moment we don't have anyone from outside to support us,” says Peischer. With a view to the entire pandemic, Gebrande remains relatively relaxed, as hardly any cases are hospitalized or treated in intensive care units.

Diffuse infection processes in the district

The infection process in the district is overall diffuse.

“We didn't have a super spreader event,” says Peischer.

Rather, the infections are spread across almost all communities.

"We always have schools in which cases occur more frequently" - such as at the Realschule in Geretsried, for example.

There are currently 17 positive cases in six different classes.

In view of the current tense situation, District Administrator Josef Niedermaier calls on citizens to act sensibly and responsibly.

“Be careful with the current freedoms.

And if someone gets infected, be honest and let your contacts know what's going on!

And please get vaccinated as soon as possible.

That is guaranteed to bring us further. "
