Greece is the winner of the travel summer 2021. Two islands in particular were able to score points with holidaymakers and attracted even more travelers than before the corona pandemic.

At the beginning of the year, there was no telling that Greece would become the number one traveler this summer.

But now it is clear: Hellas has even exceeded the expectations of the travel industry in some aspects.

In the case of cross-border air traffic alone, Greece reached 86 percent of the level of pre-Corona times in 2019 in July and August. In all of Europe it was only 40 percent, as reported by the editorial network Germany (RND).

The vacation islands of

Mykonos

and Santorini

welcomed even more guests than ever before, breaking the record of 2019.

The success in spring could not be foreseen: It was not until May that relaxed corona regulations ensured that vacationers could travel largely unmolested into the country again.

Due to the travel boom that then developed, Greece even extended its holiday season until the end of November.

Usually this is considered to be over at the end of October.

This means that Greece has been booked as the winner of this year's season by tour operators.

are said to have stayed

in the country

.

In the pre-Corona year 2019 it was 535 euros.

Germans in particular were once again ahead of the pack when it came to bookings.

But Greece was also very popular as a holiday destination this year for travelers from Switzerland, Austria and France.
