The Saxon Citizens' Prize this year goes to four associations for democracy, education and encounter, regional history and children from Chernobyl as well as an animal rescuer.
"All who put their heart and soul into volunteering deserve a big thank you," said Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) according to the announcement at the award ceremony on Thursday evening in the Dresden Frauenkirche.

The award, endowed with 5,000 euros each, went to the Buntmacher * inside Chemnitz, which advocates peaceful and solidarity with one another, and the Church in the Shop in Falkenstein (Vogtland) association, which builds bridges between the church and urban society by renting space.
The Heimatverein Königsbrück, which supports projects of importance for regional history, and the Chernobyl initiative Ottendorf-Okrilla, which organizes holidays for children from the region around the reactor in Belarus, were also honored.
