The driver of the transporter could no longer stabilize his vehicle due to the force of the impact and threw it in both lanes against the left guardrail. The car crashed into an earth wall on the right. Shortly after the car came to a stop, it caught fire. First responders rushed to the driver's aid and were able to free him. With serious injuries, he was flown to a clinic in a rescue helicopter. The van driver was only slightly injured and was also taken to a hospital.
